Volunteering Initiatives in Belgium United Nations Global Compact Belgium We are a member of the United Nations Global Compact Belgium initiative. This is a network of member organizations, including our customers, who meet at regular intervals to discuss on a wide range of corporate responsibility topics like Human Rights, Eco-Sustainability, Philanthropy, etc. Alcatel-Lucent Belgium - Winner of Red Cross "Company with a Heart" Award Representatives of the Red Cross handed Alcatel-Lucent Belgium the "Company with a heart" award for their special blood donation drive. Recently more than 87 employees donated blood. It is very encouraging to see such commitment towards saving lives. Multiple Sclerosis League Our colleague Danny Van Gucht - a Multiple Sclerosis patient himself - campaigned on foot to Compostela to raise money for the Multiple Sclerosis League in Belgium. Additionally chocolates and gingerbreads were sold to raise more money. Sinterklaasparty KIEMMA KIEMMA is a non-for-profit organization which organizes an annual "Sinterklaas" party for underprivileged children living in the Kievit neighbourhood, located near our Antwerp office. In December 2012, 8 Alcatel-Lucent volunteers participated in the party, where they helped the children play games and have fun activities. The volunteers spent the day with the children, not only bringing them gifts, but also providing them with much needed company and attention. Alcatel- Lucent volunteers participated in this event for the fourth year consecutively. Clothes and Toys collection For a third year in a row, we collected used toys for donating to "De Toevlucht," a charity organization in Flanders – the Northern part of Belgium. Alcatel-Lucent volunteers also collected second hand winter clothes. Close to 450 kg or 3,81m³ of second hand winter clothes and blankets were donated to Raad & Daad and the Homeless Action Committee, two charities located close to our Antwerp offices. |
