Engaging photos: “The fiber that keeps the world connected…!”

Earlier this year, Alcatel-Lucent employees were invited to participate in creating this year’s Annual Review and Corporate Responsibility Report through an open photography contest.

The goal of the project was to “engage” employees in the creation of our company reports, and showcase our talent from across the world.

Saravanakumar Ramesh, Chennai, India, was one of the winners. He tells us more about his photograph “The fiber that keeps the world connected…!

What does your photo represent?

If ideas are to be shared to the whole world at the speed of light then the fiber is the best carrier know to man.

How does it support Alcatel-Lucent’s commitments to Green, Our People and Digital Inclusion?

The fiber has indeed been harnessed to one of its best of potentials by the GPON technology which in-turn has made customers migrate their wired broadband to provide Triple-Play Services via fiber. This has resulted in reducing the carbon footprint made by yesterday technologies with only to keep the world connected to the Internet at lightning speeds.

Showcasing talents and corporate responsibility commitments

Our employees have been active participants of the creation of our company reports. This employee photography contest project was conducted on “Engage” — Alcatel-Lucent’s award winning internal social networking media site — where employees were invited to submit up to ten of their own photos for consideration.

More than 500 photographs were submitted. The photos are today featured on the cover of Alcatel-Lucent’s 2011 Corporate Responsibility Report and throughout the Annual Review.

We want to thank everyone who shared their talent and pictures with us!

For each photograph chosen, Alcatel-Lucent has made a donation to our Alcatel-Lucent Foundation’s Global Signature Program ConnectEd, which is helping thousands of youth around the world develop life-building skills needed to thrive in a connected world.
