The FC Basel Facebook app

Monetizing brands while making fans happy… FC Basel just started an exciting adventure!
The Swiss Football Champion FC Basel 1893, who has just recently been qualified for the round of 16 in the European Champions League through a spectacular victory against Manchester United, launched this week their brand new Facebook application powered by MNC.
The social network application invites friends of the FC Basel fan page to register their mobile phone numbers through the highly customizable Facebook web form and thus subscribe to receive promotional SMS messages from their favorite football club and its partners. The new service therefore allows to set up a customer database of user opt-ins which will be used to create targeted customer relation campaigns and thus monetize the club’s Facebook presence.
FC Basel can reach both its premium-based community i.e. seasons’ card holders, FC Basel card members and its Facebook fan base community with MNC fan marketing tools.
Whereas the premium community accesses the full marketplace of coupons proposed by the program, the Facebook fans receive only a limited selection of coupons sent via SMS.
In this way, FC Basel promotes its premium program to its large Facebook audience and thus can transform Facebook fans into premium members.
