4G Venture Forum: Speed to market with new innovations

John Riggs
By John Riggs, Alcatel-Lucent Ventures Vice President Global Center of Excellence.
Speed to market with new innovations. That’s why Alcatel-Lucent Ventures is taking a strategic role as a founding member of the 4G Venture Forum. Connecting large companies to small, linking innovators and entrepreneurs with companies that commercialize their ideas and put them in the hands of users. That’s our goal.
The industry is just as excited about this Forum as we are, just look at the media coverage, blogger and twitter activity. People, working together, across domains, will bring new ideas to reality in record speed. When we make our first investment as a result of this forum, we’ll tell you all about it on this blog. Please check out our company on Vator. We would like to help Lucent recapture the glory of Bell Labs by implementing a broadcast MAC in LTE. This will allow 4G mesh networks to scale to national proportion with stable QoS at layer 2, and all you would have to do is flash a firmware update into the DSPs. We’re also a great backhaul technology, which can be implemented before the next generation of devices come out. Of course, legacy devices will still operate with a performance improvement…but not to the same level as devices that run the dual mac for backwards compatibility and migration path.
