We've signed The Copenhagen Communiqué!

On behalf of the company, Alcatel-Lucent CEO Ben Verwaayen signed the Copenhagen Communiqué on Climate Change – reinforcing the company’s commitment to play an active role in tackling climate change.

The Copenhagen Communiqué on Climate Change is the statement from the international business community ahead of the UN Conference on Climate Change in Copenhagen this December.

It calls “for an ambitious, robust and equitable global deal on climate change that responds credibly to the scale and urgency of the crises facing the world today.”   It is intended to create “the conditions for transformational change in our global economy and deliver the economic signals that companies need if they are to invest billions of dollars in low carbon products, services, technologies and infrastructure.”

From the World Economic Forum in Dalian, Ben Verwaayen declared about climate change:

“There are 3 crises in the world today: financial crisis, a crisis in confidence and climate change.  Green is the way forward – which will help us find innovative ways of responding to the first 2 crisis while meeting the demands of our citizens and ultimately drive growth. We need a definition of success. Let’s end the bickering and get things done.”

The global launch of the Communiqué will take place on 22nd September in New York where it will be handed to Mr. Ban Ki-moon (Secretary-General of the United Nations) in advance of the UN General Assembly Climate Summit.
